Meet The BSPARK Team
Meet Itzaí Bazán. He is the lead in our BIM (Building Information Modeling) software and has years of experience in the Architecture field including running his own firm in Mexico prior to joining the BSPARK Team.
How long have you been working in Architecture?
I have been working in the field of architecture for approximately 14 years. Originally from Mexico, I successfully ran my own architecture firm there for eight years before relocating to the United States. In Mexico’s architecture industry, it is common for architects to manage both the design and construction of buildings, which enhances profitability and ensures cohesive project execution. During my time running the firm, I was deeply involved in both designing and constructing buildings, gaining experience in all aspects of the process.
How long have you been with BSPARK?
I have been with BSPARK for over two years, and during this time, I have had the opportunity to contribute to various projects. I am currently based in Colorado, where I work remotely with the Great Falls team.
Why did you choose Architecture?
When I was in high school in Mexico, we studied regular high school courses alongside classes to earn a minor degree. My school offered minor degrees in math and engineering areas of study, so I started off learning software engineering. I quickly learned that this was not what I wanted to do day to day for my career, though.
Since I was in middle school, I have always enjoyed art classes, so I decided I wanted to go to art school instead. After a conversation with my parents, they encouraged me to look at a career that may be more financially stable. So, I decided to find a way to blend my knowledge of engineering with my passion for art, and that’s how I ended up studying architecture. Now, I get to use both my engineering skills and my love for art in my work every day.
What do you think is the most important thing for someone to consider when choosing an architecture firm to work with?
When selecting an architecture firm, clients should evaluate several important factors to ensure a successful partnership. Reviewing the firm’s portfolio provides valuable insights into the quality, scope, and style of its past projects. Equally important is understanding the firm’s culture, as a collaborative and communicative approach can greatly enhance the working relationship and overall project experience. Additionally, clients should keep an eye on the project cost and think about the benefits they’ll get for what they spend. Taking these considerations into account can help clients make a well-informed decision.
What would you say is the most rewarding part of your job?
Walking by or through a building once it has been finished offers a unique sense of satisfaction. While working on a project, much of what you see on the computer is just lines and boxes. But when you step into the finished space, you can feel and experience the physical reality of what we have created. Knowing that the hours spent drawing and designing have transformed into a place that resolves a specific problem and will bring real value and satisfaction to its users is one of the most rewarding aspects of the process for me.
What is your favorite season?
I enjoy colder climates, but only enjoy snow early in the winter. I love the lights and decorations during the Holiday season. But after New Years, I would be happy if the snow was done for the year as it just makes everything muddy here in Colorado. Living in Mexico most of my life, where the seasons never really changed, I enjoy watching the changing seasons now.
